Week 11 March 22nd

Title: Gods rule. Jesus the King of The kingdom speaker: Mike

Key verses - Acts 2:34 - 36; 1 Timothy 1:1; Philippians 2:9&10; 1 Corinthians 6:19&20; Psalm 2:6 -12; Mark 2:7 - 12 & 4:39 - 41 & 5:15 & 11:20; Romans 1:4; 10:9; Revelation 19:11 -16.

Key theological points

• The Old Testament paints the picture of God's Kingdom rule and points to Jesus as the King
• He is Lord now- the rightful king of all that was originally made for Him
•  He is King over Satan who He is at war with, death and therefore sickness, sin and evil and over people, the planet, and all rulers.
• His words are the words of the King who is to be obeyed
• He rules His people through love - grace not law, discipline not 'must' and 'aught',
• His rule starts in our hearts and affects every attitude, action and word.
•  The church is not the Kingdom but it expresses and brings in the rule of the King topeople's lives
• The result of the Kingdom of God is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Key preaching points

• Matthew 13:31 – 33; Revelation 19:11- 16
• Jesus rule on earth is the Kingdom of God or heaven on earth
• He rules for righteousness and justice
• He rules through His words and His sacrifice
• His rule or kingdom is personal and infects everything through you
•  The kingdom comes massively through small beginnings in peoples' lives.
• When the good news of the kingdom is preached everywhere then Jesus returns to establish complete removal of evil and bring in His eternal kingdom on a new earth He will make.

Key questions

• Is Jesus truly Lord of you?
•  With the church not being the Kingdom what implications does that have for church working in our society and where it fits in politically?
• How can you bring God's rule into your home, your work and your own life?
• Describe demonstrations of God's rule in your life or as seen in others as He kicks out Satan.

Pointers for Worship

• Jesus is God's great king and what a great King he is
• His kingdom rule brings righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit
• celebrate His rule over all things

Key verses - Matthew 18:15 -20; Acts 2:41 -47; 1 Corinthians 11 1 Corinthians 12:12 - 27; Galatians 3:3; Ephesians 1:22, &3:10; 1 Timothy 3:1 - 13; 1 Peter 2:9-10. Hebrews 13:17

Key theological points

•  God desires a gathered community/ a family that gets together
• made up of new creation, Holy Spirit filled, Holy people
• united, loving each other with care and concern
• a holy people disciplining one another and discipling one another
•  lead by elders locally and apostles with prophets evangelists gifted to grow them strong
• remembering their saviour through communion and identifying with their saviour through baptism
• Fulfilling the great commission through missionary churches
•  giving worship to and glorifying God
•  His body, His bride, His army, His family, His temple.
• needing one another, serving one another

Main preaching points 1 Corinthians 12:12&13

• Priesthood of all believers
• Handling diversity through acceptance and respect and seeing the need for each other
• working at loving, forgiving and good relationships - ie being one
• Our common identity is love for and belonging to Christ with His Spirit personally in our lives
• We are Christ on earth to the world we live in -salt and light

Questions

• What parts of this vision of church are we failing short in and what part do you have to play in bringing this about?
• Why does God give us elders, how should we Biblically respond to them and why are they male only?
• How do prophets and apostles affect this church and therefore your life?
• What does it mean to be part of church?
• How are we to relate to everybody when there are many and not all our sort of person?

Worship pointers

•  Thank God for the joy and blessing of fellowship
• Worship the head of the church who will receive praise from every tribe, tongue and race as         part of his bride
• Thank God for gifts of people given to His church so that it can be Him on earth

Week 9 March 8th

Title: Jesus God's power to us part 2. The gift of the Holy Spirit poured out on Jesus who then in turn baptizes us in Him Speaker - Mike

Key verses - Matthew 3:11 &12; John 3:6 - 8 & 16:7- 15; Acts 1:8& 2:1- 8,& 8:16 - 17,& 19:1 -7; Romans 8:26 -27; 1 Cor 12,13 &14; Luke 4:16 -21; Galatians 3:2 - 6.

Key theological points

• The Holy Spirit is the gift of the Father from Jesus to us
• The Holy Spirit is just like Jesus
•  He is God on earth and God in us now
•  We can do nothing without the holy Spirit help
•   The Holy Spirit brings conviction, conversion, revelation, prayer help, assurance etc
•  He is the power of God given to us as a separate experience from conversion
•  He expresses Himself through gifts.
•  Prophesy is needed to build the church
•  tongues builds us up
•  miracles and healing and all the gifts glorify Jesus

Main preaching points

• Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate experience for you today
• We receive by faith alone in Christ the baptiser
• We live by the Holy Spirit
• Discipline is needed not law to live this Christian life in the Spirit
•  Grace is how we live in the Spirit

Questions

• Have you received baptism in the Spirit?
•  What gifts have you exercised and are you desiring the best gifts?
• How do we receive and judge prophesy?
• Where does love fit in to all this?
•  If all is of grace what does prayer, fasting, scripture reading etc accomplish?

Worship pointers

• Enjoy worship 'in the Spirit' as well as with the mind
• Thank Jesus for His baptism of fire - The Holy Spirit
• Let the Holy Spirit lead worship of Jesus with spiritual gifts of tongues and interpretation and prophesy
