The Un-- prodigal older son
Luke 15 v1 and 25 — 32.
1. The elder son is

a)  Seeing life as miserable
b) Thinks Father owes him something. It's called religion.
c) React to suffering/ persecution/ difficulty and blames Father.
d) Thinks himself superior.
e) The elder brother has put off the rebellious brother from ever coming home.

2. The elder brothers' sin is as bad as rebellion and grieves the Father.

a) It fuels unbelief — never good enough
b) hypocrisy
c) He worshipped his good works

3. The answer to a rebellious son and a religious son is the same. A Father who loves them and has actually an older Son who is the answer to their hearts problems.

4. This changes how we live our Christian life

a) Romans 5:17 — reign, joy, overcome etc by receiving his gift!
b) Expect miraculous, Holy Spirit gifts etc,
c) Accepts

Don't wait to be holy to get right with God / baptised/ receive the Hoy Spirit

Title: God returns - Jesus second coming

 Key verses: 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 18; 1 Corinthians 15:50 -57; Matthew 24:3 -50; Revelation 21 - ch 22:7, Titus 2:11-14; Psalm 16:11; Matthew 25:2; Romans 11.

 Key theological points

• The Gospel will go to all the nations
• Church is the Biblical means of discipleship so it will also go to all the nations
• Transformation of all things through Christ - visible and invisible creation
• All wrongs will be put right so a perfect new world
• Heaven comes to earth - God makes His home here
• How you think it all ends shapes how you live now
• Our final and total transformation will be to see Him and be like Him
• Heaven is on earth and we will rule/ have responsibility/ pleasures, etc

 Main preaching points

Matthew 24:36-50

• Our job is to keep focused on the task and not distracted - to be ready and prepared
• He will come like a ‘thief in the night’
• Jesus will return and be glorified and we with Him
• Judgement follows His return

 Questions

• What about Palestine and the Jews? Are Christian’s right to promote Zionism, pray for the peace of Jerusalem and finance the rebuilding of the temple?
• Why do Christians try and work out the timing when it says you don't know?
• What are the implications of not knowing?
• What can we do to keep focused? Focused on what?

• Our great King will return
• All wrongs will be put right 2and all evil removed
• We will be glorified with Him and see Him face to face.
